Product Description

THE WORLDS IS NOT ENOUGH

And now we're disappointed when we don't win a 10th gold medal. In a monumental week for bike racing, our expectations have grown to the extent that it was a shock when Victoria Pendleton didn't retain her keirin crown and repeat last year's triple title triumph.

She was simply unbeatable in the sprint competition and had given a faultless display in the keirin qualifying rounds, only to fade in the finishing straight of the final. Only two years ago her silver medal would have been hailed a success, but now, live on national TV she fought back the tears, and we all shared her disappointment.

Only the best is good enough for our riders, who are now not only the world's best ever track squad but also the most successful British team in any sport on the global stage. With wins in seven Olympic disciplines, cycling is on course to match the UK's entire medal haul from Athens.

Expectations are sky high and it is sensible for Dave Brailsford, the team boss, to be cautious. "The bottom line is that nobody will look back and remember what happened in Manchester this week," he said. "This year is all about the Olympics."

He's right of course, but at least just for a week or so we should all bask in their glorious success. So congratulations to Bradley, Rebecca, Ed, Victoria, Geraint, Paul, Shanaze, Chris, Wendy, Mark and Jo. You've made us all very proud.

We celebrate Team GB's stunning achievements in Manchester with a very special souvenir issue of Cycling Weekly this week. We present 14 pages of review, analysis, comment and exclusive photographs so that you can relive British track riders' finest hour.

Elsewhere in the issue we bring you news from the Criterium International, Tour of the Reservoir, take a look at Shimano's all-new groupset, ride the Pyrenees with the Pinarello team and much more.
