Product Description
MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDER

There's only one thing to talk about this month and, no prizes for guessing, it's Steve Peat's momentous World Championship victory in Canberra, Australia. For a rider as successful and talented as Steve Peat, with 17 World Cup wins, three World Cup Championships and four runner-up places at World Championships, this victory has been a long time coming. Many people had given up hope that the hugely popular Sheffielder would ever win the title. But, in a thrilling race, on a course that drew criticism from some quarters but undeniably produced a nail-biting finale, Peaty took the rainbow jersey by a mere 500th of a second from Santa Cruz Syndicate team-mate Greg Minnaar. I think the whole mtb world collectively went berserk when the last man down, Gee Atherton, crossed the finish line and Peaty lay back in the hot seat, safe in the knowledge that his bête noire was beaten. To celebrate his historic win, we've put together a Big Picture Special from the World Championships.

Also in this issue, we've been picking the brains of some of the finest mountain bike cinematographers in the business to bring you a definitive guide to making the slickest riding movies. Andy travelled north to take a fresh look at the potential of the Pennine Bridleway, abandoning the obvious mile-munching option in favour of using the National Trail as an artery to access the extensive network of local trails that branch off it. Check out Andy's UK Trails feature, along with some fantastic photography from Roo.

Meanwhile, the tech team have been out riding the stuff that manufacturers hope you'll be buying next year. We've got first rides on the 2010 Commençal Meta 55 Carbon, Kona Magic Link Abra Cadabra and Pace 506. The mbr spy camera's also been hard at work sneaking around the pits at Crankworx, while this month's bike test reviews three full-suspension rigs that won't break the bank.

Next issue we'll be bringing you an interview with the new World Champion and, as winter looms, we're cover-mounting a free beanie with every issue. But until then, I'm sure you'll join us in raising a glass to the people's champion: Cheers Peaty!

IMPORTANT NEWS – In 2009 and into 2010 we're continuing to publish 13 issues rather than the usual 12. This means there'll be a new mag every four weeks, rather than one per month. And instead of popping into your local newsagent on the first Wednesday of every month, you'll need to get down there every fourth Wednesday. The November issue's out on October 21st, then every fourth Wednesday following.
